I don't understand people that pay no attention to lyrics in a song. 

Of course, the lyrics themselves (not to be confused with vocals) don't make a huge difference to the sound of the song itself. Sure, the song would sound just as great if you changed words or even if you sung gibberish instead. It's the story, the lyrics, that makes something meaningful. It's the lines that the lyricist has constructed for a reason that makes a song special. 

I've loved songs with shit lyrics. Who hasn't? These are songs that you can dance to at a party or in a club without second thoughts. They're also the type of songs that (surprise, surprise) frequently find their way to the top of the music charts. But I've found that any song holding any emotional resonance with me has had lyrics that made me think. I happen to believe that the lyrics you like say a lot about you - almost as much as the lyrics you don't like do. In fact, I hate sharing specific bands and artists with people in real life because I'm afraid that they will look up the lyrics. It's kind of sad, I know. But as a (secret) poet myself, I see the beauty in the way certain phrases flow or fit together, even if I can't pinpoint their meanings exactly. It just makes me mad when other people can't find the same beauty in words as I do.

For a long time, I've wanted to share some of my favourite lyrics on this blog. I guess I've tried finding creative ways to do this before (collages etc.) but today I just want to list them and let you make some type of meaning from them. These are simply songs I have been liking recently, but perhaps this could become a regular thing??(idk?))? Regardless, enjoy. All it takes in a song is one line to trigger an emotional response, even if that line means something different to you than it does for the original lyricist.

HERE COMES THE ANXIETY - THE WOMBATS
